Welcome!

Welcome to my islands of the world! I have been in love with islands since I was a child. On islands, one can be to oneself an 'island' or know that in the immensity of our world, there are places were you can be 'someone' and not lost in a big city. Islands are places of great beauty or tragedy. They are both hostile and friendly. They are strong and equally fragile. They are often highly contested places. Borders don't seem to hold them! Having been to many of the most remote islands in the world, I have no romantic view of them only wonder, delight and yes, even fear. One often hears 'deserted island' dreaming from people. When they are told that these islands are indeed 'desert islands', its because of the lack of fresh water. Survival would be fraught to near impossible in such places. We must rid ourselves of the romance of such places (yes you can as I do love them!) but reality will be the only weapon we have to help these fragile places in a time of climate change. In all, water surrounds them in its embrace. I feel at home. This blog houses all things 'island' including: Postcards, Maxicards, QSL (Radio) Cards and unusual island related philatelic memorabilia from my travels and trades. This collection includes: Islands, Archipelago's, Atoll's, Cays, Solitary Rocks, Reefs, Abrolhos, Esturine Islands & Islands situated in Lakes. This blog also includes Antarctica which is an island continent. 1 January 2024 UPDATE: Now including Postcards from Rare Countries and Volcanoes. (This blog is continually being updated.
